PhD position on Mechanical Well Integrity Measurements (m/f)

The International Centre for Geothermal Research (ICGR) at GFZ Potsdam is opening a position in the project “GeoWell - Innovative materials and designs for long-life high-temperature geothermal wells”, funded by the European Commission - Horizon 2020 for 2+1 years. A key objective of the project is the development of reliable, cost effective and environmentally safe well completion and monitoring technologies.

Tasks:

• design and implementation of fibre optic measurements under laboratory as well as field conditions at an active drill site.
• measurements of the thermal and mechanical load onto the wellbore structure, performed during different wellbore operations like cementation and geothermal fluid production and/or injection.
• data integration from various fibre optic measurement techniques and analysis of processes influencing the mechanical well integrity of high temperature geothermal wells.
• close collaboration in the field of multi-disciplinary data acquisition and analysis with project partners of European research institutions as well as the Centre for Geological Storage at GFZ.
