PhD position - Earth System Modelling

The position is part of the national climate modelling initiative PalMod. Therein, the working group “Physical systems” aims at the modelling, understanding and quantification of feedbacks between climate components during glacial cycles.

Tasks:
• analysis of viscoelastic deformations of complex earth models in response to ice and ocean loads on geological and present-day time scales
• set up of regional earth model parameterisations based on geodynamic and structural constraints
• development of suitable parameterisations of earth models for application in transient simulations of dynamically coupled earth system models
• validation and statistical analysis of sea-level predictions by means of sea-level indicators
• presentation and publication of results

Anforderungen
• Master’s degree or equivalent in physics, geophysics, oceanography or related discipline
• skills in continuum mechanical modelling or statistical analysis of data
• programming experience in FORTRAN or related language, use of MatLab or R
• interest in cooperative research in a multidisciplinary and international environment
• good command of English
