Ein thermisches und rheologisches Dichtemodell der Antarktischen Lithosphäre auf der Grundlage von Satellitendaten mit Anwendung auf das thermische Regime des Eisschildes.

In the proposed study we are going to integrate satellite gravity and magnetic data, seismic tomography and other geophysical information aiming for construction a 3D thermal, density and rheological model of the lithosphere. Such a model is important not only for study of the lithosphere dynamics but also for the ice shield, which thermal regime is controlled to a certain extent by the lithospheric heat. Antarctica remains one of the least studied continents, where traditional ground observations are very limited. Therefore, new satellite observations open innovative possibilities for solution of these problems. Contrary to previous studies we are going to combine several methods, which all together should give more reliable model. The first technique implies analysis of the satellite gravity data and surface load for determination of the effective elastic thickness of the lithosphere. This parameter is directly related to its thermal state. Second, we are going to estimate position of the Curie point based on the magnetic data analysis. And last, we will apply inversion of the gravity and tomography data constrained by mineral physics. In the final stage all the results will be cross-validated and tuned resulting in an adjusted 3D model, which optimally fits them. Several tests will be performed to analyze a connection of the lithosphere and ice shield thermal regime.

Tasks:
• analysis of magnetic field observations and determination of a depth to the Curie point
• determination of mantle properties from a joint analysis of gravity and seismic tomography data
• analysis of the obtained models with respect to thermal regime of the ice shield
• publication of relevant results in peer-reviewed scientific journals
