Influence of Heterogeneities on the Initiation of Shear Zones in the Ductile Regime

• The successful candidate will perform high temperature/high pressure deformation experiments in Paterson gas medium triaxial and torsion apparatuses.
• Microstructural analyses of the deformed samples will be performed under optical, scanning and transmission electron microscopy.
• Quantification of crystallographic preferred orientations (CPO) will be conducted by electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD).
• The experimental results will be compared with natural shear zones.

Anforderungen
• Applicants should hold a MSc degree (or equivalent) in geology or geophysics, with strong background in structural geology and rock mechanics.
• Expertise in experimental deformation of rocks and microstructural analyses will be considered as an advantage, but not a necessity for the application.
• The ability and willingness to work in an interdisciplinary and international environment and a fluent knowledge of the English language are required.
