Thesis: Magneto-microfluidic system for finishing micro-channels

The main goal of project is to design and develop a magneto-microfluidic system in order to perform polishing of micro-channels with a complex geometry and to characterize this process. The polishing process will be done using magnetic nanoparticles with abrasive properties. The student will be heavily involved in developing a PMMA-based system for this purpose and in characterizing the channels geometry by means of white light interferometer. By the end of the project the student will demonstrate the magneto-microfluidic system and preliminary results of the study of the polishing quality depending on different regimes of the system (average velocity of the suspension in micro-channel, strength of magnetic field etc.) and different suspensions (oil, magnetic abrasive suspension with different shapes of magnetic nanoparticles).
