PhD opportunity: Noninvasive fluid dynamic measurements via magnetic resonance

It is well known from medical diagnosis that nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) is capable of noninvasive volumetric imaging. NMR can also image flow velocity fields inside liquids by encoding the velocity of the fluid in the phase ƒÖ of the NMR signal, typically by using spatial gradient magnetic fields.
This PhD project will explore flow encoding as the basis to construct, operate, and experimentally verify a very precise flow measurement device for technical flows in small channels.

Research environment:

The Institute of Microstructure Technology at KIT has excellent microfabrication and microfluidics facilities, a high-field and a low-field NMR laboratory, an RF laboratory, and a parahydrogen hyperpolarisation facility. The research group of Prof Korvink has extensive experience in building and operating miniaturized NMR hardware.
