Motivation & Goal:
Digital watermarking is a technique designed to hide information in a certain type of digital data. Embedded watermarks can be used to enforce copyright, data authentication or to add information to the data. Ideally the watermark should not interfere with the intended purposes of the data, which makes watermarking a user-friendly alternative to Digital Rights Management (DRM) methods. Most of the research on watermarking has concentrated on watermarking audio data, still images, or video. Indeed, copyright protection of graphical objects and models is also important for protecting author rights in animation, multimedia, computer aided design (CAD), virtual reality, medical imaging, etc.
Especially in the grown up market of video games, there is demand for a watermarking technique for 3D-models. Until now there is no solution known that satisfies the requirements on robustness and security and thus is able to maintain copyright or authentication.
The goal of this thesis is to analyze an existing 3D-model watermarking algorithm and to implement potential optimizations. The reliability should be evaluated carrying out a significant testbed.
Tasks:
•Analysis of a state of the art 3D model watermarking algorithm
•Optimization and enhancement of existing implementation
•Evaluation via a significant testbed
