The position is available to study the interaction of selective attention and working memory in humans, the influence of healthy and pathological aging on these processes and their trainability. Methods to be applied include (f)MRI, EEG, MEG, eyetracking, TMS and TES. The project involves designing dedicated experiments, analyzing of the data and preparing scientific manuscripts for publication.

The German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE) is a center of excellence within the Helmholtz Association that performs translational research on Neurodegenerative Diseases. The center includes nine high-performing sites in Berlin, Bonn, Dresden, Göttingen, Magdeburg, Munich, Rostock/Greifswald, Tübingen and Witten.

One Ph.D student position – Code 4015/2014/9 - is available within the “Neuroprotection” group led by Prof. Notger Müller in Magdeburg.

Anforderungen

The candidate (f/m) should have a background in psychology, biology or neuroscience. Prior experience with analyzing MR and other neurophysiological data is desirable but not indispensable. The candidate should be interested both in applying modern state-of-the-art neuroimaging and psychophysiological techniques and in working with elderly subjects some of which may also suffer from neurodegenerative diseases such as dementia. The candidate should have an open mind to collaborate with several groups within the DZNE, both in Magdeburg and in other sites.
